The most current estimate for the population for Mexico City is about 8,864,000 people which is an increase of about 0.15% from the last record of the population. Around 19% of Mexico City’s population is known to indigenous people. The main language of the city is Spanish. However, because of the indigenous communities in the city, languages like Nahuatl, Otomi, Mixteco, Zapoteco, and Mazahua are also spoken in the city. As of 2013, Mexico's government predicts that 33% of Mexico's population lives in slight poverty and 9% lives in extreme poverty and 42% of Mexico's total population living below the national poverty line.
